JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview

The Patent Counsel will be responsible for managing and protecting the company's patent portfolio. This role involves working closely with our R&D and legal teams to ensure that our innovations are adequately protected and that we maintain a competitive edge in the market. The location for this role will be at P&G’s Beijing Innovation Center (BJIC).

You will have direct, front-line responsibility for giving legal/IP advice to and counselling several of P&G’s multi-billion-dollar business units in Asia.


Responsibilities of the Role

Handle patent-related work for business units within Asia, including:

  • Conducting freedom-to-practice clearances for new products, processes and initiatives;
  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications;
  • Supporting invalidation of competitive patents or defense of P&G patents against invalidations filed by competitors; and
  • Collaborating with external counsels to implement P&G patents.

Serve as the single point of contact for a selected group of R&D clients to develop:

  • Holistic IP strategy to protect innovations;
  • Comprehensive IP risk management plan for product/initiative launches in global or regional markets; and
  • IP trainings for R&D clients, through live/virtual training sessions or hands-on coaching;

Monitor patent-relative legislative changes in Asia to timely inform and influence internal and external partners.


Role Requirements

  • MS and/or PhD in technical fields including life sciences, chemistry, engineering, etc.
  • Understanding of Chinese and international patent laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or L.L.M. degree from a recognized law school is a plus.
  • Chinese patent attorney qualification and/or Chinese bar admission is a plus.
  • Fresh graduates, even without prior experience, who are eager to become patent attorneys are encouraged to apply.
